The Central Lafourche girls basketball team has its new leader – a coach who will be attempting to get the program back to the playoffs.
Athletic Director Shelly Vedros confirmed to By-U Sports today that Derrell Joubert has been hired as the team’s new girls basketball coach, replacing Tora Danos who resigned earlier this summer to take a teaching position at Destrehan.
Joubert is coming to Central Lafourche from Hathaway High School.
He was a college basketball player after a decorated career at Northwest High School. After his playing career, he has gotten into coaching.
Joubert has an extensive background in AAU coaching, which is something the Trojans likely need. Youth basketball numbers on the girls side have been lacking in the Central Lafourche area and Joubert will likely be working hard to boost those numbers, get more players playing younger which will have benefits to the high school program.
The Trojans struggled last season and posted a 4-17 record. But that team had several young pieces that will be back next season which should allow the new coach to perhaps have a boost.
