CCA announced its new varsity track and field coach today – a talented coach who has won state championships as a performer, but who also has coached high-level competitors as well.

The Lions confirmed that Abby Lazard would be their next coach. Lazard was a volunteer coach for CCA last season. She also has experience coaching some of the top jumpers in our area on the AAU circuit and also at the middle school level, coaching at Thibodaux.

On the track, Lazard was a multiple time State Champion in both the long and triple jump – one of the most decorated track standouts in our area. She signed out of high school to compete at Kennesaw State where she also enjoyed success.

“I’m so excited to be the head track coach at CCA and I cannot wait to get started,” Lazard said. “We had a great season last year and laid a great foundation and now, we want to build on that. I cannot thank the school’s administration enough for believing in me and entrusting me with this amazing opportunity.”

Lazard said she sees the sky as the limit for CCA track. The school is talent-rich and has a plethora of athletes, which she said is great for a track coach who needs to mix and match competitors to events to accumulate points. She said her goals are to grow the numbers in the program, but also to work with each individual in the program to make sure they are confident and are performing at the best of their ability.

Lazard said her expectations are high – just like all other sports at CCA – and she wants to build the Lions’ track program into one that the school community will be proud of.

“We want to build a program that competes at the 1A level for championships,” she said. “That is what CCA is becoming known for. That is what we want to be. We have work to do, but we will work hard and do what we can to get to that point.”

Lazard said she is pleased and honored to be part of the CCA coaching faculty, adding that to be a head coach in the same athletic department that has coaches like Joe Teuton, Jesse Turner, Troy Jackson and others is a big honor.

She said she plans to hit the ground running in the coming weeks, as she is also the school’s cross country coach in addition to her track duties.

“The CCA athletic department has so many good coaches and so many good people and it is a great thing to be part of that group,” she said. “We have enjoyed so much success in the last few years and I am now proud to lead a program that hopes to mirror that success for our kids and school community.”
