It’s officially go time for Thibodaux native Cam Sanders.
A source close to the E.D. White graduate and former LSU arm has confirmed to By-U Sports tonight that Sanders is going to be called up and be active tomorrow for the Pittsburgh Pirates, his first-ever MLB call-up.
Sanders has been dominant this season, posting a 4-1 record with a 1.91 ERA in 33 appearances between Double-A and Triple-A. He signed with the Pirates this offseason after starting his career with the Cubs.
Sanders has located and been good at both levels. In Triple-A, he is 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 15 appearances. In 18.2 innings, he has struck out 25 and opponents are hitting just .145 against him.
Sanders last pitched on August 1. He was filthy. He pitched 2 scoreless innings and struck out 6, earning a win against the Iowa Cubs.
It was easy to put the pieces together that a call-up was possible for Sanders given how well he has been pitching and also how the Pirates sold off bullpen pieces at last week’s trade deadline.
The former E.D. White Cardinal is expected to be active before tomorrow’s game and could well be used. On Monday, the Pirates utilized a bullpen game and had 5 relievers all work to get them through the game.
With Sanders having 3 rest days, he could very easily be called to pitch on his first day with the team.
