A Championship-Winning former Thibodaux High School football coach is one of three inductees into the school’s 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame.
Athletic Director Tony Clark released this year’s inductees this year, which include State Championship football coach Dennis Lorio as well as Mike Duncan (Class of 1963) and Anthony Thomas (Class of 1984).
The three gentlemen will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this induction cycle and will be honored at halftime of Thibodaux’s October 30, 2025 home game with Terrebonne.
Coach Lorio was Thibodaux’s head coach from 1987-1991, amassing a 44-18 record in his time and fielding dominant teams, including in 1991 when the team won its first-ever State Championship in the school’s first-ever season in Class 5A. During that season, Lorio was named LHSAA 5A Coach of the Year and the WWL Coach of the Year.
After several other stints around the state, Lorio also returned and coached 3 more seasons at Thibodaux later in his career from 2008-2010, going 22-12 and making 2 playoff bids in 3 seasons.
Mike Duncan was a 4-sport student-athlete at Thibodaux who graduated in the Class of 1963. He was a football, basketball, track and baseball standout. In football, he was All-District, All-Area and All-State during his senior season – a player who received an athletic scholarship to Memphis State University where he played until he was drafted into the Canadian Football League.
For Anthony Thomas, his path to the Hall of Fame was paved on the track. He was a 3-year member of Thibodaux’s track team, during which the Tigers were 3-time parish, 2-time regional and 3-time district champions.
He was also a big piece of the school’s 1984 State Championship Track Team, posting an individual State Championship in the 1984 400-meter run. He also won the 400-meter run in the High School All-American Meet in Franklin.
Thomas is still a Thibodaux High School record holder in 3 track and field events and post-prep, he went on to participate in the Army Track and Field Team, winning 3 Armed Forces Championship Titles. He was a 23-year Veteran in the United States Army.
