Two uniform numbers are sacred in LSU football history: No. 7 and No. 18.

The Tigers announced today who will be wearing those jerseys – one a no-brainer and another that makes sense but was a little unexpected amongst some Tigers fans.

LSU announced today that Harold Perkins will don the No. 7, a move which came as no surprise because he wore the jersey last season. No. 7 is usually designated for a skilled playmaker for the Tigers and Perkins fits the bill. He has battled injury and has seen his role evolve a little throughout his career, but Perkins is a skilled edge rusher who, if healthy, should be a force for the Tigers in 2025.

Wearing the No. 18 in 2025 will be quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. That jersey has been handed down for years and goes annually to a player who is somewhat of an on-field leader.

Nussmeier is a returning starting quarterback who has become an emotional leader in Baton Rouge. He had chances to leave LSU via the portal but stuck it out and waited his turn. He also had a chance to go pro after the 2024 season, but opted to return to LSU to try and lead the team to a national championship.

The Tigers also announced that Nussmeier and Whit Weeks will be the team’s official captains for 2025.
