We did a Preseason Power 5 one month ago today.

Since then, we have seen teams in practices, scrimmages and even jamborees and a few things have changed.

It’s now September and it’s now officially game week, so let’s revisit and get our Week 1 Power 5.

BY-U SPORTS WEEK 1 POWER 5 RANKINGS – September 1, 2025

1. E.D. White – The Cardinals are going to be No. 1 on our list until someone beats them and/or until someone fully takes the title. They are the defending State Runners-Up in Division II Select and they have looked the part of a contender at every stage of the preseason, showing off their muscle and skill in a comfortable jamboree win over H.L. Bourgeois. Week 1 will be no joke. Playing Holy Cross is a huge test. E.D. White’s spot at the top will be challenged right out of the gate. They’d want it no other way.

2. Terrebonne – I saw Terrebonne with my own eyes on Friday. If not for the respect that I have for the tradition and success at E.D. White, we would likely have a new team atop this list. The Tigers are so dominant up front and have playmakers all over the field. They had a pretty good season 2 years ago, a really good season last year and now seem poised to make the jump from really good to great in 2025 if the chips fall the right way.

3. CCA – The Lions have a few nagging injuries but they look the part of a team that is again going to be solid in 2025. They have strength up front and playmakers who can do a lot of damage with the ball. They need to get closer to 100% healthy before the fall sinks in, but we see no reason why CCA won’t be playing well beyond Week 10 again this season.

4. Thibodaux – The Tigers have had a strong offseason under first-year coach Lowell Narcisse. They got a live quarter scrimmage win over South Terrebonne, then walloped Ellender in the jamboree to continue to make a statement that they can be among the more improved teams in our area. A week 1 showdown with South Lafourche is lurking and is going to be a really, really big measuring stick football game for both programs.

5. South Lafourche – There are any number of teams who could take this final spot in our Power 5, but we go with South Lafourche on a hunch. Vandebilt was the team most strongly considered, but they have hiccuped a little in their preseason – albeit against Terrebonne and Lafayette Christian. The Tarpons enter the season a little dinged up, but should be close to a full-go by Friday. The defense has been improved, but still a little shaky. Once they get their 2-way players inserted, I think that will be better as well. Just a hunch. Week 1 will go a long way in proving if that hunch is right or wrong.
