A Thibodaux native is getting his second crack at life in the Big Leagues.
E.D. White graduate and former LSU pitcher Cam Sanders was recalled to the Pittsburgh Pirates today, giving him his second crack at life in the MLB.
Sanders was called up for his debut on August 5. He made 5 appearances from Aug. 5-13, posting an ERA of 9.00 in those outings.
But those numbers are highly misleading. Sanders was scoreless and effective in 4 of his 5 MLB appearances. The lone outing where he gave up runs was an outing where he allowed 5 runs in a third of an inning against the Reds – the only time he was asked to pitch on back-to-back days by the Pirates.
Sanders had a scoreless outing on August 13 before being sent back down to Triple-A.
On the season in the minor leagues, Sanders is 4-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 48.0 innings combined between Double-A and Triple-A. He has 59 strikeouts in those innings.
Sanders last pitched on August 29, working a scoreless inning and getting a save in Triple-A.
