5 TAKES AS LUTCHER TOPS SOUTH LAFOURCHE
TAKE ONE: DOWN YEAR … YEAH RIGHT – You know you have one heck of a team and one hell of a program when this is your ‘down year.’ Lutcher is 6-4 this season and it isn’t considered one of their better teams. Could have fooled me. That team played hard, executed and looked every bit the part of a Division II contender.
TAKE TWO: LITTLE THINGS, BIG THINGS – South Lafourche did win some snaps tonight. It wasn’t a complete wash. But little things became big things tonight. The Tarpons struggled in plus-territory. They struggled in short yardage. They had turnovers. They couldn’t get off the field on third downs. All of those little things rolled together turned into one massive thing and a tough one.
TAKE THREE: NO. 72 IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER – College football coaches must not enjoy winning football games. Caden Parquette is the most disruptive defensive player I’ve seen in a long, long time. He dominated the game tonight from the nose guard position. He has 1 D-I offer, according to his coach: Nicholls. But somewhere, somehow, a kid who has played college football for 6 years and who has been at 17 schools will have an offer sheet full of offers this recruiting cycle. It makes no sense.
TAKE FOUR: INJURY FREE – South Lafourche got out of the game as injury free as one can expect. Braxton Pitre was out and the team hopes he can be back next week. But other than that, everyone was mostly able to get out of the game healthy. More important than the result is that. When you’re a 4A school that’s in Division I because of a stupid system, you need every duck you have to be in a row to have any chance at all in Week 11.
TAKE FIVE: SPEED KILLS – Lutcher is faster than South Lafourche. But it’s more than just purely running in a straight line. Watch them run the football. Watch how fast they hit the holes on the run plays. Watch how fast they attack in space on defense. They are physically faster, yes. But they play faster, too. There’s a difference. You can have a 4.7 40 and play faster than someone with a 4.5. When you are physically faster AND you play faster, well, it becomes a 42-3 night.
TAKE SIX: LYONS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT ONE – Tyler Lyons is the next great South Lafourche football player. Just a 9th grader, he’s playing varsity and is looking every bit the part of a dude who is going to be a future All-District, if not All-State player. He must have had about 10 tackles and was flying around the ball. Special talent. Special kid.
TAKE SEVEN: AND NOW WE WAIT – And now we wait for the brackets to be released by the LHSAA. By tomorrow morning, we will have a good idea of who will be going where. South Lafourche is 100% in. They are 100% going to be on the road. Where they’ll be playing, we will find out.
