H.L. Bourgeois has hired Stanley Smith as its new head coach.
Smith replaces Sterling Washington who resigned at the end of the 2025 season.
Smith was most recently the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Adams County Christian School. Prior to that, he was the head coach at Ferriday, winning multiple district titles, making deep playoff runs and even winning the 2A State Championship.
Smith is a defensive minded coach and he lands at Bourgeois with high hopes to turn the program around. The Braves made the playoffs 2 seasons ago, but had a step back in 2025.
The Gray area is talent rich and Smith hopes to be able to come in and spark life into the program.
Smith’s teams have been known for their defensive prowess and discipline. He also has helped send multiple student-athletes to the next level.
