A huge congratulations is in order for Covenant Christian Academy cheerleader Makenzi Sampey, who has officially signed to continue her cheer career at Louisiana Christian University. With her family, coaches, and teammates supporting her, this signing marks a major milestone and a proud next step in her athletic and personal journey.
When asked how it feels to take her cheer career to the next level, Sampey said, “I personally feel beyond accomplished to be able to further my cheer career into college, and I couldn’t be happier to do it with this group of girls and amazing coaches.” It’s clear that for her, this moment is about more than just the title or the scholarship. It’s about the people who helped her get here and the team that made the process meaningful.
She shared that her decision to choose LCU came down to the feeling she got from the program and the way she was welcomed from the start. “I picked this school because of the atmosphere and how much of a family they presented to me, it reminded me so much of CCA and how they were instantly including and the sweetest people! I also picked this school because of how they present themselves with Christ. This is a very important part of me, and I’m glad I can go to college and be very expressive of it!”
As she prepares for this next chapter, Sampey already has goals in mind. One of the biggest personal accomplishments she hopes to reach involves stepping into a new role on the team. “My biggest thing I want to accomplish is learning how to fly. I have been a base my whole life and recently just went up in the air! It was so much fun, and I would love to get better at it!” That excitement says it all. She’s not only grateful for the journey so far, but also ready to grow and challenge herself at the next level.
Of course, behind every athlete is a strong support system, and Sampey was quick to recognize the people who helped shape her into the cheerleader and person she is today. “I truly have so many people who shaped who I am today and pushed me to my limits as a cheerleader! If I had to choose a few, I would say my nana, Coach Carol, Mrs. Zoe, and my parents. They have all pushed me to be the best I could possibly be, and no matter the ups and downs along the way, they made sure I was reaching my full potential. If I could say something to them right now, I would say thank you for shaping who I am today, and there’s no way I could do this without you!”
This signing is a proud moment not just for Makenzi Sampey, but for the entire Covenant Christian Academy community. Her hard work, dedication, faith, and love for her team have carried her through every step of the process. Now, she gets to take that same heart and hustle with her to Louisiana Christian University, and there is no doubt she’s going to make an impact.
Congratulations again to Makenzi Sampey on this huge achievement. CCA is proud of you and can’t wait to see what you do next.
