A Morgan City soccer player was arrested by the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office after a postgame brawl where he struck another player.

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office released a statement yesterday saying they are investigating an incident that occurred immediately following a boys’ soccer game at Bossier High School between the home school and Morgan City.

Bossier won the match 1-0 and advanced in the State Playoffs.

After the match, an altercation broke out between multiple students from both teams. In the melee, video footage shows Morgan City player Micah Wilkerson striking a Bossier High School player, knocking him to the turf and resulting in injury, which required medical attention. Morgan City parents and supporters say that Wilkerson was hit first and was acting in self defense. A short video was posted of the incident on a Northern Louisiana athletics site. It shows some video of the incident, but most of it is shot after the Bossier player has been knocked to the ground.

Wilkerson was arrested and charged with second degree battery in the incident.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office took him into custody after the team returned home. He is held in St. Mary Parish awaiting extradition. He is held on a $10,000 bond.

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office is working with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office to gather more information on the incident.

More details will be released as they become public.

It is not yet known if Bossier’s playoff spot will be in jeopardy.

The LHSAA has forced teams who participated in postgame altercations to forfeit their position in the playoffs in years past.

As of now, Bossier is scheduled to play No. 1 University Lab on February 17.
