That was a butt whopping.
Thibodaux beat South Lafourche 41-6 on Friday night to move to 2-0 on the season, dropping the Tarpons to 1-1.
We have takes. We always do. So let’s roll.
TAKE 1: THIBODAUX IS REALLY GOOD – Coach Lowell Narcisse has the boys bought in at Thibodaux. Those guys have weapons all over the field and a defense that attacks the line of scrimmage and tackles. You see how and why they beat E.D. White. You see how and why this team could be a contender in Division I Non-Select, but …
TAKE 2: YOU NEED TO STOP THE PENALTIES – Thibodaux had upwards of 15 penalties tonight – a lot of them self-inflicted with delay of games, personal fouls and just foolish mistakes. It’s early. It hasn’t cost the Tigers yet. But Coach Narcisse knows this is not sustainable. He has said after both games so far this season that there are things that the team needs to fix with penalties at the top of the list.
TAKE 3: THIBODAUX HAS WEAPONS – Bro, Thibodaux has some dudes. The Adams kid is electric at tailback. The Percle kid the same. The Brown kid the same. Robertson at QB is lights out and they have a whole slew of receivers on the outside who can make plays. That offense is going to be tough to slow down for an awful lot of people this fall.
TAKE 4: SOUTH LAFOURCHE AND THE PASSING GAME – No one is calling for South Lafourche to throw the football 30 times a game like last year. But this team NEEDS to be able to hit short, easy, efficient throws down the field to keep the defense honest. Thibodaux had 0 respect for the Tarpons’ passing game and the Tarpons still couldn’t make them pay. Coach Young and his staff have to go back to the drawing board and figure it out. The Tarpons ran the football fairly well at times. But you need to be able to have a few more rabbits in your hat than that.
TAKE 5: CAN WE HAVE ONE GAME WITHOUT LIGHTNING DELAYS? – For a second-straight game, we had a lightning delay. This time, it was with no rain in sight and stars in the night sky. Look, I am not blaming anyone. I have the same app that everyone else has. I saw the lightning strike. I looked and told Coach Callais upstairs that we were about to have a delay before we did. I am just saying – pleading – with the football Gods to let us have one game without issue. Please.
TAKE 6: BIG ONES NEXT WEEK – BOTH WAYS – South Lafourche has to get back on the horse fast next week and try and beat a Central Lafourche team that is building some steam with another win tonight. Thibodaux has a showdown with Vandebilt next week. That’s two HUGE football games.
TAKE 7: DAMIEN ROBERTSON IS A SATURDAY PLAYER – He can run. He can throw. He commands the huddle. He gets better every time I see him play. Someone needs to take a chance on Damien Robertson. Kid can play and you’ll have him for 5 years. He will only keep getting better and better.
TAKE 8: CALEB MYERS IS A PLAYER – Caleb Myers had a big interception for South Lafourche tonight and through 2 weeks, he has been all over the field both games and has made some big-time plays. On a team filled with sophomore guys playing varsity, he is a kid who has big-time promise.
