South Lafourche ran past Central Lafourche on Friday night in a big-time win, surging to a 55-36 win over the Trojans on Homecoming Night in Mathews.

5 TAKES AS THE TARPONS BEAT THE TROJANS
TAKE ONE: GOODNESS, THAT TARPON OFFENSE – It’s hard to lose when you rush for what felt like 450-500 yards and score on every possession. That’s what South Lafourche did on Friday night. If the Trojans sold out for the run, the Tarpons hit passes. If the Trojans sagged back, they got beat up at the line. It was a grating up front and the Tarpons’ backs were dominant and that was with one of the team’s top backs out of the game.
TAKE TWO: CROSSROADS FOR CENTRAL LAFOURCHE – The Trojans are 2-1. They have Destrehan and Thibodaux coming up. Coach Aaron Babin was seen on the field talking right into the helmet of his quarterback as the game went final. This is not the end of the season for the Trojans, but this is a crossroads. You got punched in the mouth and now the schedule is a gauntlet. How do you respond?
TAKE THREE: AND SOUTH LAFOURCHE TOOK OFFENSE TO THAT – Homecoming is different today than it used to be. It is scheduled sometimes well in advance and the opponent isn’t nearly as selective as it used to be. But don’t tell that to South Lafourche. The Tarpons took offense to being the homecoming opponent for Central Lafourche. That was a big piece of motivation this week. It showed on the field.
TAKE FOUR: BRADY GRIFFIN WAS HUGE – South Lafourche has had a whale of a time in the passing game this season. On Friday night, Brady Griffin WAS HUGE. He hit easy throws, kept the defense honest and was a weapon. With those backs and that offensive line, that’s all you need to do. He did it. Give that kid a helmet sticker.
TAKE FIVE: TROJANS HAVE A PLAYER UNDER CENTER – So much has been made about some of the Trojans’ playmakers and weapons, but not nearly enough has been made about quarterback Brock Babin. He is a good football player. He moved the pocket well, kept his eyes down the field and played well under duress. He’s a good football player.
TAKE SIX: A SCHOOL RECORD? – There is a world where Lakin Fillinich broke the school record for single-game rushing yards tonight. It will be close. Either way, Fillinich is now more than halfway to 1,000 yards in 3 games. And he’s a sophomore. A special talent.
TAKE SEVEN: A FEW PLAYS CAN CHANGE IT ALL – It truly is a game of inches. The Trojans had a touchdown called back by a penalty, then a few plays later had a drive stalled out by a muffed snap to their quarterback. The Trojans also tried an obvious fake punt that no one fell for and got stopped. If those plays go different, we have a whole different ballgame. It is a game of inches sometimes.
TAKE EIGHT: NOTHING LIKE THE SOUND OF SILENCE – So many people were in the comments saying things about the Tarpons’ offense. It is pretty quiet tonight. Imagine that. Onward to Week 4 we go.
