5 TAKES AS LSU ROARS PAST TEXAS A&M
TAKE ONE: Hurt Sam Leavitt hits different – Bro, could we have seen that moment where Sam Leavitt gets it? Like when Joe Burrow got crushed agains Central Florida and become Super Burrow for the next 12 months? The second Sam Leavitt got hurt, he became a different football player. Unable to run, he stood in the pocket, was poised and was dropping dimes. That was something we haven’t seen all season. Is it just a blip? Or is it a moment? We will see. It sure was pretty.
TAKE TWO: Not this time, Marcel – Marcel Reed is not a good quarterback. He’s not. LSU has made him NIL money for both of the past two seasons, but he’s barely a starter at this level and is not an SEC caliber passer. LSU took away his legs for the first time in 3 tries and dominated him, handcuffing their offense and making the Aggies look pedestrian, which through 4 weeks, it might be time to say that they are. Since last year’s College Football Playoff disaster, he is in his own head. He has been horrid to start the season.
TAKE THREE: The WRs emerged – With Trey’Dez Green out for a while, LSU needed someone to step up. They got it in a big way in Jackson Harris and others who were massive getting down the field, taking the top off the defense and making plays. That is what we have been wanting to see all season. If Green can come back AND you get those types of plays? Yikes.
TAKE FOUR: Deuce Geralds is a monster – Nothing else needs to be said. LSU has some animals up front in their front 7 and Geralds is one of the elites. That kid is playing like a junior and is just a true freshman. They can’t block him … already.
TAKE FIVE: Play the top guys, coach – LSU shuffled their offensive line on Saturday and it paid dividends. Look, I’m all for a fun story. The guy who started the season at guard was that. But I’m also for playing the 5 best dudes – not just the dudes you owe a favor to because they helped pay for the NIL collective and a few coaching buy-outs. Get the dudes on the field who are the best players. Good move, coach.
TAKE SIX: Trinidad did to LSU what no one else will – The things that Trinidad Chambliss did last week are things only he will do. Against every other QB who isn’t a sixth year ineligible player who judge shopped to get eligible, it hasn’t been nearly as pretty. Chambliss is one of one. That defense will be just fine against all the players around the country who are actually eligible.
TAKE SEVEN: I remember last year – Texas A&M acted the ass in Death Valley last year. It was so embarrassing that it got Brian Kelly fired about 12 hours later. I get it. When you haven’t won anything of significance (very similar to last week’s opponent), you treat regular season wins as massive deals. But I remember that game and LSU did, too. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Congratulations on your 2025 regular season win, guys.
TAKE EIGHT: Get right week – You lost some dudes to injury this week. You have to get some guys back healthy. You have to get Leavitt situated. You have to figure out what’s going on with Whit Weeks. You took some bumps and have a week to recoup and get right, but it has to happen fast. The SEC waits on no one. You don’t get to play Rutgers, Maryland and Northwestern in this league.
TAKE NINE: Wasn’t your Super Bowl, my foot! – Nothing else to say. Just that.
