Assumption needed all five sets to keep its Division II playoff run alive. The 14th-seeded Mustangs edged No. 19 Willow 3-2 at home Thursday in the bi-district round.

It was a grind for both sides, with Assumption finding just enough answers late to close out the Lions and extend a four-match winning streak into the postseason. Willow’s season ends in the first round of the 32-team bracket.

The Mustangs move on to the regional round against No. 3 St. Scholastica, which swept Livonia in its opener. A win there would put Assumption on the doorstep of the state tournament at the Cajundome in Lafayette (Nov. 12-14).
