West St. Mary squeezed out a 16-13 road win at Franklin on Friday night in District 8-2A play between the two St. Mary Parish schools.
In a low-scoring battle between parish neighbors, the Wolfpack made their 16 points hold up on the Hornets’ home field to win by a field goal.
It was a needed bounce-back for West St. Mary, which had been shut out 28-0 at Loreauville a week earlier. The win evens the Wolfpack at 5-5 for the season and 2-3 in district play. West St. Mary’s victories this fall also include a 38-14 win at Berwick in early October.
Franklin drops to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in district. The Hornets had put up 33 points against Catholic-New Iberia last week, but Friday’s loss was their fourth in their last five games.
Both teams have now played out their regular-season schedules. By-U Sports will keep an eye on the St. Mary Parish teams once LHSAA playoff brackets are released.
