An LSU senior halfback is out for the season with another serious knee injury.
Multiple reports out of Baton Rouge today stated that senior John Emery Jr. is out with a torn ACL, ending his season and likely his collegiate career.
Emery came into the season as a forgotten member of the LSU backfield. He torn his ACL last fall, then entered the transfer portal, but then quietly returned to LSU. The senior not only played, but was easily LSU’s most productive back in the opener with USC, rushing 10 times for 61 yards. He got out of the opener clean, but reportedly tore up the knee in practice Tuesday.
Emery is a former 5-star recruit who has had both injury trouble and academic issues. It is possible that he could seek a medical redshirt, but it is no guarantee that the NCAA would grant him a waiver for further eligibility.
With Emery out, LSU is now thin in the running back room with Josh Williams, Kaleb Jackson and Caden Durham as the only active scholarship players with Trey Holly still suspended pending the resolution of a legal situation after an offseason arrest.
