Central Catholic was shut out 42-0 by Ascension Episcopal on Friday night in Youngsville, closing the Eagles’ regular season on the road.
It marked the first time this season Central Catholic failed to score. The Eagles finish the regular season 4-6. Ascension Episcopal improved to 6-3 and earned a share of the District 7-1A title along with Westminster-Lafayette and Jeanerette.
The Blue Gators struck on the game’s opening possession when Owen LeBlanc scored on a 4-yard run, and LeBlanc added a 9-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead. Central Catholic answered with two first-half drives inside the Ascension Episcopal 10, but came away empty both times.
Those missed chances proved costly. Eli Gros ran in from 6 yards out in the third quarter and later found Jack Boudreaux on a 45-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-0. Ascension Episcopal added two more scores for its third straight shutout.
LHSAA playoff pairings will be released Sunday. By-U Sports will keep tracking Central Catholic and the rest of the Tri-Parish teams as the brackets take shape.
