E.D. White opened its Division II state playoff run with a clean sweep Wednesday night in Thibodaux. The second-seeded Cardinals beat No. 31 McDonogh 35 3-0 in the bi-district round.
The Cardinals stayed hot, extending a six-match winning streak into the postseason and never letting the Roneagles find a foothold. McDonogh 35 finishes the season 13-11.
E.D. White improves to 22-11 and moves on to the regional round. The Cardinals earned the No. 2 seed in Division II after a strong district run that also sent South Lafourche, South Terrebonne, Assumption and Ellender into the state bracket.
A trip to the Cajundome in Lafayette for the state tournament (Nov. 12-14) is still two wins away. By-U Sports will follow the Cardinals through the rest of the playoffs.
