The local basketball slate was loaded full of games tonight and we had some really interesting results.
So let’s dive right to it and get to the local scoreboard in tonight’s roundup:
—
Grand Isle 53, First Baptist Christian 43 (boys)
Kudos to Grand Isle for getting a big win tonight. The Trojans are rebuilding their program after Hurricane Ida, but Coach Scott Bouzigard is doing a great job working with his team and getting them better, as evident with tonight’s big win.
–
East St. John 80, Thibodaux 56 (boys)
The Wildcats got out in transition and pushed the pace to a level that Thibodaux couldn’t handle, rolling to a win and keeping the pace with the local district contenders. The Wildcats were making shots in the paint and from deep in getting the comfortable win.
–
H.L. Bourgeois 73, Terrebonne 67 (in OT) (boys)
The Braves of H.L. Bourgeois survive and stay unbeaten at 7-0 in our local 5A district, winning a hard-fought battle over Terrebonne in overtime. The Braves continue to cruise, and goodness, your heart breaks for Terrebonne. The Tigers have lost so many close games in district play. How many more times can those guys keep getting off the mat? Kudos to Kylan Billiot for scoring his 1,000th career point tonight.
–
Vandebilt 68, Lutcher 46 (boys)
The Terriers open district play with a decisive win over Lutcher to get their district journey off on the right foot. The Terriers used their depth to their advantage to surge out to a big win over a Lutcher team that will be in contention to try and push for the runner-up spot, assuming that the Terriers remain the local 4A lead dog.
–
South Lafourche 71, South Terrebonne 36 (boys)
South Lafourche started slow, but got their engine revved up in the middle and late stages of the game to roll to a lopsided district win over a Gators team that fought against fouls throughout the game. Sophomore guard Terrance Pitre had a 20+ point game, and the Tarpons got good play inside from Beau Georges and Sawyer Wells on the inside in the lopsided win.
–
Houma Christian 53, Haynes Academy 45 (boys)
The Houma Christian School boys’ basketball team continues to peak at the right time, getting another win on their home floor to continue their hot streak and continue to build momentum heading toward the playoffs. The Warriors play so darned hard for Coach Richard Jones who is doing an outstanding job with that team this season.
–
Central Lafourche 44, E.D. White 37 (girls)
The Central Lafourche girls’ basketball team got a signature win, scoring a big-time road upset win over E.D. White to keep their outside hopes at making the playoffs alive. The Cardinals are now going to have to bounce back after the setback in their hopes to try and finish in the Top 4 in Division II Select.
–
Thibodaux 49, East St. John 46 (girls)
The Thibodaux girls’ basketball team is hot again! After a mid-season slump, the Lady Tigers are piling up wins again, including a huge win over East St. John on Friday night. Kudos to coach Ashley Barba and her team for overcoming a key injury to Taylor Thomas, taking some licks in the aftermath of the injury, but then persevering and coming back stronger than ever. Good stuff.
–
South Lafourche 51, South Terrebonne 16 (girls)
The Lady Tarpons made several 3-pointers and got a blowout win over South Terrebonne to earn a district victory. Ellie Lorraine and Maddison Bruce were both in double digits for the Lady Tarpons, which kept their playoff hopes alive in victory.
